Big Glue rules roost on server perch

HP is number two

IDC RELEASED figures for server sales in the fourth quarter of 2007 with IBM remaining at number one, HP taking second position, and Dell and Sun tying for third place.

Big Glue had a market share of 36.7 per cent, with its System X and System P servers performing well. HP had 27.7 per cent share in the quarter, and revenues from its sales rose by 6.3 per cent compared to the same quarter in 2006.

Dell grew its revenue share by 6.8 per cent but Sun fell by 2.4 per cent. Fujitsu-Siemens’ factory revenues grew by 4.3 per cent.

Microsoft benefited from Windows server sales, showing revenues of $5.7 billion, while Linux server software revenues rose to $2 billion and holds 12.7 per cent of all server sales.

The Unix OS delivered revenues of $5.2 billion with Power RISC from IBM driving most of the sales. µ
