Sub 50nm technology 'R' Us
With DRAM prices collapsing US chip maker Micron and Taiwanese firm Nanya have tied the knot to develop stack DRAM technology.
The two are talking about a joint venture to build a chip factory as they try to keep feet in both stack and trench DRAM camps.
Nanya already has a trench DRAM partnership with Qimonda called Intoera to take it down to the 50nm DRAM level. Marketeers said that Nanya would tie up with Micron on sub-50nm DRAM technology development because it has already linked up with Qimonda on DRAM technology down to 58nm, said Digitimes.
DRAM prices fell 80% in the past year and both Nanya and Micron made losses in the fourth quarter. µ
