Sun wins big EU server deal
In the framework
A DEAL to supply hardware and services to the European Commission worth $141 million has been secured by Sun Microsystems.
Sun said the deal encompasses server hardware and associated software and servers, but didn’t say give details about the tin, unfortunately.
The multi-year contract will mean Sun supplying 1,100 servers which will include “compliance with ecological standards”.
So green AMD, blue Intel, or SPARC? Anyone know, drop us a billet doux. µ

Sparc
AFAICT there will be a lot of Sparc in that deal. A lot of code here is already SPARC and a migration to other procs would need a lot of rewrite.Sun has done good things
Good for Sun. They have introduced many good things and are one of the forces keeping Microbloat in check.I am an advocate of Suns ZFS file system. If you do not know what that is, read up on it because it is revolutionary.
With the server storage getting exponentially larger the ZFS makes allot of sense.
OS X Leopard can recognize and read from that file system.
Have a great day,
