Toshiba launches even more wares in Ware
Toshiba Spring Trade Show DVD players and recorders R Us
TOSHIBA unveiled more of its Q2 line up at the spring product preview show in Ware, Hertfordshire – this time in the DVD arena.
At the same event that went on all last week for vendors, Tosh showed off to the press a new series of DVD players in the SD280E, SD480E, and SD580E. At the same time, it kicked into touch three new DVD recorders imaginatively entitled DR18DT, RD88DT and RD98DT. This was along with two all-on-one DVD recorders and VCRs, the D-VR18DT and RD-XV48DT.
The DVD players come in with a range of key features for the new line-up. This starts with the entry level SD280E building on from their previously successful SD270, now with Multi-format, DivX, MP3, JPEG and Hi Res Progressive Scan. The mid-range SD480E has the same functions as the SD280E but is also accompanied by a HDMI output, DVD up-scaling to 1080p and their CEC REGZA link. And the highest in the series, the SD580E, having all of the previous abilities mentioned plus a USB socket.
SD280E
On the DVD recorder front, the new models start with the entry level DR18DT. This has the following features; Freeview Playback; 1080p DVD up-scaling, DV input, DivX, MP3, JPEG, HDMI output, REGZA-Link (HDMI CEC), 1xDigital and 1xAnalogue Tuner. The next model, one up from that series is the RD-88DT with the same abilities as the DR18DT only with a 160GB HDD on board and 2x way dubbing. With the last but no means least of the new range being the RD-98DT and as you correctly guessed all the same functions as before, only now with a 250GB HDD
DR18DT
The D-VR18DT has the same features set as the RD-88DT, only with an in-built VCR and sans the HDD. Whereas the RD-XV48DT does have the same functionality, with a VCR on-board and 6x way dubbing instead of the just 2x.

We waited on prices for all the above, but alas no details were forthcoming at press time.
Toshiba also announced that it had had a great year in 2007, in the UK. The company was number one in the DVD player market, number two in the dual deck, also number two in dual deck recorder and first in the three-in-one market. Which in their maths equates they were number two overall, remind us to let Toshiba do our tax returns this year – we could be in for a windfall or just spend some time in jail. µ
