Apple takes Jesus phone to South America
Conquistadors
FRUIT THEMED outfit Apple is hoping to boost its sales of the iPhoney Jesus phone in Latin America.
The reassuringly expensive toy will be bought to more than a dozen countries starting later this year.
Apple has signed a deal with America Movil, which is controlled by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim. Other than that it is not saying much more, because that would be helpful and informative for people.
However America Movil has 159.2 million subscribers in 16 countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico and it is fairly likely the deal will be exclusive.
According to the slimline press release, the Jesus phone will be available in Latin America by the end of the year. µ

Latin America = South America?
Yes American Movil has services in South America, but last I checked Latin America was not South America. You seem to use the 2 interchangeably, both the article you link and your 'writing' specifically say Latin America, yet the title says South America.By the way excellent analysis on Wall Street being disappointed with Apple's earnings. I believe Apple was up a mere 10% in the five days after the earnings report. I guess 10% is pretty poor though...
Keep up the anti-Apple articles and apple bashing - I'm sure you'll hit upon something genuine soon...even a stopped watch is right twice a day!
@ disgruntled
Hey disgruntled? What u all disgruntled about? Is your surname Jobs?Or are u disgruntled because you paid an obscene amount of money for a pretty average phone? Did you get caught up in the fruity hype?
(I'll give you the Latin/South America comment though!)
so?
i live in Chile...and the iphone has been sold here pretty much since launch in the USA, well, 1 or 2 months after that really.Of course, it is not that cheap, mind you. But you can get it...all you need to do is "hack" it so you can use it with any movil phone operator.
Useless...
Same here in Argentina, Iphone has been available since launch, and right now an unlocked iphone is cheaper than many "high end" phones sold by Mr Slim's company and its competitors. This is useless, by the time the Iphone gets officially here, most people willing to buy such and expensive gadget, wil have already purchased the 3G version of the toy.
@krs
I'm disgruntled at the quality of the writing - this site is good at providing info and links, putting a creative spin and humor on it and taking playful jabs at large companies.Nick F however has an agenda (for whatever reason) and that would be tolerable if he did not distort facts beyond a willing suspension of disbelief to drive that agenda.
However, I must say when I read Nick's article about Wall St being disappointed with Apple's earnings - I took that as a sure sign that it was time to buy Apple stock and have quickly made >10% on it. So I guess I can thank Nick for his bad analysis!
BTW - thanks for 'giving' me the Latin America/South America that really gives me a sense of validation, and no I don't own an iPhone or ipod, they are too expensive for me. Of course I can see how anyone calling out Nick's ridiculous anti-Apple agenda must be an Apple lover by default though?
Nick - give it up and have some integrity. You'll have plenty of opportunities to bash Apple, you don't need to make stuff up or force it so badly (transparently?).
same in Peru
in Peru also we can buy the latest version of the Iphone completely unlocked for about $600. I hope they bring at least the 3G version to take advantage of the network. And here it would be impossible to sell it in 2 year contract.
